Examinations in Dutch Higher Education: opportunity to balance and compensate or one single examination? Examinations in higher education are often the focus of social and political discussion, and never more so than in the Netherlands. At Wittenborg University, the majority of modules is examined through written papers and reports or sat examinations.

During the recent accreditation process the examination systems were carefully reviewed and students at Wittenborg have been getting used to the new system of one exam per module since September. Before that, each module had three examination components that allowed students to compensate their achievements, for instance their learnt knowledge with intuition expressed in an open exam.

Many students felt that the system of having three parts to an exam that could be sat independently was better, but most new students agree that having one single exam, paper, project or report is simpler to plan and prepare for.

The end of this block sees the final chance for undergraduate students at Wittenborg to sit “old style” exams, hence closing the previous Bachelor International Business Administration programmes.
