Students Invited to International Mother Language Day Competition by Embassy of Bangladesh

Celebrating linguistic diversity

Earlier this month, Wittenborg University of Applied Sciences' President Peter Birdsall received a letter from the Ambassador of Bangladesh to the Netherlands, M. Riaz Hamidullah, on behalf of the Embassy of Bangladesh. The letter invited Wittenborg's students to participate in a poster-making competition to celebrate International Mother Language Day, which falls on 21 February. International Mother Language Day aims to celebrate multi-linguicism, diversity and cultural pluralism, particularly in education. As two of Wittenborg's key values are Internationalisation and Diversity, the school would be delighted if students would participate in the competition, hosted by the Embassy of Bangladesh and Universiteit Leiden.

The design must focus on an International Mother Language. This can be the student's native language, or perhaps the language of the country where they are studying. If a student is interested, they can email their digital art, sketch or painting to events_internationalstudies@hum.leidenuniv.nl before 11 February for a chance to win a cash prize. If a student's design is selected for further judging, they will have the opportunity to present their design in person on 21 February at Universiteit Leiden's Schouwburgstraat campus in The Hague to the Ambassador of Bangladesh to the Netherlands, who will then select the final winner.
