Mescon Highlights Wittenborg's Ambitious Commitment to Excellence

A member of Wittenborg’s International Academic Advisory Panel (IAAP) for over two years, and currently serving as Chair of the Advisory Board, Timothy Mescon emphasises the school’s dedication to excellence. “I love the fact that Wittenborg is an ambitious, quality-focused, international institution, truly committed to programme excellence, business engagement and graduate placement,” he says.

Originally from the United States, Mescon brings decades of experience in international business education. He is currently an Executive in Residence at the Parker College of Business at Georgia Southern University. Previously, he served as Executive Vice President and Chief Officer for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) at AACSB International, the world’s oldest and largest accreditor of business schools. During his tenure, he and his team supported nearly 600 members and over 180 accredited schools across the region.

Before joining AACSB, Mescon built an impressive career spanning 35 years in US business schools, including 21 years as a dean and six and a half years as a university president. He has co-authored five books, published numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and case studies, and contributed a long-running management and leadership column to Delta Air Lines’ in-flight magazine.

According to Mescon, Wittenborg’s strong corporate connections in Apeldoorn and across the Netherlands set it apart from other business schools. “The school is deeply engaged in the local community, ensuring significant benefits for students and alumni through business partnerships and career opportunities,” he explains. He is particularly excited about Wittenborg’s AACSB accreditation journey, which he believes will further cement its status as a world-class business school.

Reflecting on his extensive experience in international education, Mescon highlights the transformative impact of diverse student bodies. “Universities with substantial international enrolment offer a unique, up-close perspective of global cultures, languages and traditions. This deep immersion enriches the entire Wittenborg community and fosters a great appreciation for the similarities that connect us all,” he says.

A lifelong academic inspired by his father – an immigrant to the US and the first in his family to attend university – Mescon encourages students to stay informed by reading publications like the Financial Times daily. In his personal life, he enjoys skiing and recently took his two young granddaughters on their first skiing trip in Colorado.
