Participants Seize Opportunity to Sing, Dance and Make New Friends

For more than 100 Wittenborg students and staff members, the evening of 19 April was filled with music, dance, laughter and joy. On that occasion, the school’s annual Karaoke Night was held at Teun Apeldoorn from 17:30 to 20:00.

In addition to singing and dancing, the participants had the opportunity to make new friends and also enjoy snacks and drinks. The eclectic selection of songs highlighted people’s diverse tastes and backgrounds, including music from various genres and countries such as Spain, India, Iran, Colombia and the US.

Wittenborg IBA student Alexandra Kukhtina, also the school’s External Relations & Events Administrator, commented that this was the first time she attended the Karaoke Night, describing her experience as amazing and unforgettable. “The welcoming and friendly atmosphere encouraged staff and students to sing and dance together. I was impressed by the number of people who volunteered to sing, because singing in a crowded room is quite a challenge for me, but everyone was supporting each other and having fun together.”

Admissions Administrator Amin Nadervandi highlighted that many students who have just joined the school take part in events like this so that they can get to know their classmates as well as Wittenborg staff members. “People had the chance to have a great night out without feeling homesick or worrying about their studies. On top of that, karaoke is a fun way for students to bond with their classmates.”

For Eunice Cheung, also an Admissions Administrator, the indoor event was perfect for the occasion because the weather was not particularly good that day. “At first, people were a bit shy when it came to singing and dancing, but after some snacks and drinks everyone started enjoying the vibes. There was a lot of variety in the songs, going from all-time hits to contemporary music and songs in different languages.”

Associate Professor of Applied Sciences Alexander Bauer, who performed the Backstreet Boys’ hit ‘I Want It That Way’ with four students, said that the Backstreet Boys are a classic must at every karaoke event.

“In addition to the five of us, everyone else joined in for the refrain. The singing and dancing was great! I also tried to support the others’ performances as much as possible. ‘Macarena’ was another outstanding number and thanks to our students, I have finally learned the moves.”

Bauer encouraged Wittenborg to organise more events of this kind. “It is a great way to get to know students and colleagues outside of the school,” he concluded.
