Forget the winter blues, it's that magical time of year when Apeldoorn and its surrounding areas come alive with holiday cheer and a myriad of exciting activities to keep you entertained throughout December. 

Sinterklaas and his helpers bring magic to Apeldoorn's Saturday Market - 2 December  

On Saturday, 2 December, Sinterklaas and his 'Pieten' (or 'Petes') have a delightful plan in store for Apeldoorn's residents and visitors. The lively 'Piets', known for their playful antics, will be at the large Saturday market from 12:00 to 14:00. But the real magic unfolds when Sinterklaas himself joins the market from 13:00 to 14:00. 

Cut your own Christmas tree for free in Park De Hoge Veluwe – Starting 2 December  

Throughout December, on selected weekends, visitors to Het Nationale Park De Hoge Veluwe can cut down their very own Christmas trees. In a designated area deep in the forest, visitors are welcome to choose, cut and take home a tree of their choice (one tree per visitor). By felling these wild pines, visitors are making a significant contribution to the park's ecosystem, as these pine trees thrive in unique, open drift-sand areas. Without removal, these trees would overgrow and endanger this distinctive landscape. How does it work? The pine tree can be taken home for free; only the park entrance fee needs to be paid. One ticket per person for everyone aged thirteen and older.

Vaassen Christmas market - 8, 9 and 10 December  

Located in Vaassen, near Apeldoorn, the Christmas market offers a one-of-a-kind mix of cultural and culinary experiences. Visitors can explore stalls, enjoy the festive ambiance with twinkling lights, and take in the stunning setting of Cannenburch Castle.

Pull Up | with ADF Samski and Yssi SB, among others - 16 December  

Get ready to groove to the hottest hip-hop beats of the moment on Saturday, 16 December as the GIGANT pop hall hosts an electrifying line-up. Headlined by ADF Samski and Yssi SB, this event also features Apeldoorn's very own talents, including Marcos & Atsko, Rasta & Romario, Devon & Ansiefanatiek, Sufii7osso and H1DDIN9.

VSM Christmas Express - 16 and 17 December  

All aboard the Christmas Steam Train Express at the Veluwsche Steam Train Company! Embark on a magical journey through the wintery landscapes of the Veluwe, brimming with the enchantment and nostalgia of Christmas.

Dickens Festival Deventer - 16 and 17 December  

During this enchanting weekend in December, the heart of Deventer undergoes a magical transformation, bringing the timeless tales of Charles Dickens to life when over 950 characters from Dickens' famous novels step into reality. From the iconic Scrooge to the beloved Oliver Twist, Mr Pickwick, Christmas Carol Singers and more, the essence of Dickens' world thrives. The Dickens Festival unfolds on both days from 11:00 to 17:00, attracting over 125,000 visitors annually. Admission is free, but do anticipate a brief wait at the entrance as enthusiasts gather to witness this captivating transformation of time and place.

Winter Circus Apeldoorn - Starting 24 December  

Prepare to be captivated by the enchanting Winter Circus in Apeldoorn. Combining tradition with a modern flair, this circus weaves magic, acrobatics, and humour into a winter spectacle that's perfect for the entire family.

Bison Winter Trail - 30 December  

Conclude the year with an invigorating trail run at the Wisent Winter Trail. This exciting trail offers three distances to choose from: 23km, 16km, and 8.5km. Each route comprises a single extensive loop, carefully marked with clear signposts. You'll navigate through nearly 100% unpaved terrain, tackle stairs, climb, and traverse narrow paths. With space for a maximum of 1,000 participants, be sure to secure your spot for a splendid and sporty year-end adventure! 

Fireworks Show in the Zuiderpark - 31 December  

Start your New Year's Eve festivities with a breathtaking fireworks display in Zuiderpark, marking the first fireworks show in Apeldoorn. Join the excitement and witness the dazzling pyrotechnics lighting up the night sky between 19:00 and 21:00.

Fireworks Show Zwitsal - 31 December  

Get ready to ring in the New Year with a dazzling fireworks display at the Zwitsal site. There will be not one, but two incredible fireworks shows to choose from: between 21:00 and 23:00 and at the stroke of midnight. Admission is free, so prepare for an unforgettable New Year's Eve experience.

New Year's Eve Walk - 31 December  

Looking to bid farewell to the old year in a unique way? De Hoge Veluwe National Park has a special treat for you! On the last day of the year, the traditional New Year's Eve walk takes place in the park. Join experienced nature guides as they lead you through the enchanting winter landscapes. Stroll along and immerse yourself in the serene and unforgettable beauty of the season.
