Events Feature Movies of Different Genres

Movie enthusiasts who live in Apeldoorn or its surroundings have the opportunity to attend two open-air film festivals in August: GIGANT Buitenfilm and the Vue Openlucht Filmfestival.

GIGANT’s event is going to take place at Van Reekumplein, starting on 10 August, and consists of six films in five different languages: Dutch, French, English, Italian and Spanish. It is worth noting that all films will be shown in their original languages and subtitled in Dutch, except for "De Beentjes van Sint Hildegard", which will be shown with no subtitles.

Focused on independent and arthouse cinema, the programme includes movies such as "De Beentjes van Sint Hildegard" (10.08), "The Big Lebowski" (11.08), and "Pane e Tulipani" (12.08). Also featured is one of the biggest French film hits ever, "Bienvenue Chez les Ch'tis" (17.08), as well as Argentinian black comedy "Wild Tales" (18.08) and the English film "The Full Monty", which closes the festival on 19 August.

All movies will be shown at 21:00 on the specified dates and the price of the regular tickets is € 11. However, those who have GIGANT’s Vriendenpas ('Friend Pass') can acquire the tickets for € 8.50. To find more information and purchase tickets, go to GIGANT’s website.

Fun for all the family

Vue Openlucht Filmfestival has been a famous family event in Apeldoorn for many years. Featuring box-office hits, this is Europe's largest open-air cinema and has a casual atmosphere that can easily be enjoyed with food and good company.

Consisting of nine sessions, the festival will take place from 11 to 19 August, surrounded by nature, at Park Berg & Bos, located at J.C. Wilslaan 21.

The event features eight English-language films, which will be shown in their original language with Dutch subtitles, as well as the Dutch film "Elemental", which will be shown in Dutch with no subtitles. The programme includes "The Little Mermaid" (11.08), "Meg 2: The Trench" (12.08), "Elemental" (13.08 – in Dutch), "Joy Ride" (14.08), "Haunted Mansion" (15.08), "Barbie" (16.08), "Hotel Mumbai" (17.08), "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" (18.08) and "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny" (19.08).

All sessions will start at 21:15, but attendants must keep in mind that there is a 10-to-15-minute walk from the entrance of the park to the location of the festival. Tickets cost € 14.50 and can be acquired on Vue’s website.

Wittenborg IBA student Maheen Chaudry says that she is really looking forward to the Vue Openlucht Filmfestival. "My friends and I have already got tickets for ‘The Little Mermaid’ since we didn't get a chance to watch it in the theatres when it was first shown. This is a unique experience that, in my opinion, shouldn't be taken for granted."
