Summer has officially arrived and students from Wittenborg University were out in force this weekend at the annual Grolsch Drakenboot Festival in Apeldoorn where they surveyed more than 400 festival-goers.

Wittenborg Students Survey More than 400 Visitors at the Apeldoorn Drakenboot FestivalThe survey has officially been commissioned by the organizers of Drakenboot-festival. Donning Wittenborg T-shirts, students – who were divided in 5 teams - asked participants various questions about their experience of the 3-day festival and behavioral patterns. This included questions about participants’ motivation for attending the 3-day festival, how many hours or days they plan to spend at the festival, favourite activities and suggestions for improving the festival next year. Demographics such as age, gender and country of origin was also duly noted.

The data from the survey will be analyzed by the organizers to compile an idea of who attends the festival and what attracts them.

Wittenborg Students Survey More than 400 Visitors at the Apeldoorn Drakenboot FestivalOther questions focused on measuring attendees’ satisfaction level, to what extend they explored other tourist attractions and hospitality services in Apeldoorn, how they found out about the event and how accessible the premises were.

The festival usually draws around 100 000 visitors every year. It kicked off on the Friday evening with a concert. Saturday and Sunday it was time for the excitement of the boat races. According to Chinese tradition about 100 teams, with an estimated 2500 participants, compete for various titles, cheered on by spectators and fans from the canal banks.

As if that is not exciting enough, there were also be a number of street theatre acts, performances by DJ’s as well as bands and last, but not least, lots of food stalls, shows, football and jumping castles for the kids!
