Almost 220 companies showcased the latest trends in the events industry at the prestigious Events14 exhibition that took place in Utrecht this week and Wittenborg University was among them!

As one of only a few institutes in the Netherlands providing an English-taught master degree program in Event Management, Wittenborg director, Maggie Feng, and support staff was on hand to provide visitors with information on what the university offers in terms of training the event managers of tomorrow.

The event took place on Wednesday and Thursday at the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht. Exhibitors pulled out all the stops when it came to what they have to offer, displaying their creativity with the help of vintage cars, huge cinema screens, 10 feet high flower bouquets and glorious food - including the humble, but beloved Dutch stroopwafels!

They were not short of admirers either - more than 7,600 visitors breezed through the Jaarbeurs doors over the course of the two days. Wittenborg director, Maggie Feng, said this was one of the most liveliest fairs one could come to. “It is much more vibrant. You have music, DJ’s, ropes hanging from the ceiling, food and entertainment. There is a lot of innovation and new concepts coming through in the events industry.”

She said it was important for the university to attend the fair to create awareness of of the Wittenborg brand. “Even though the events business is a new, young and fresh branch, there also needs to be awareness of the academic support it requires - such as research - in order to drive it to a higher level. Another reason we’re here is to give the young professionals at the fair the opportunity to learn more about how they could further their studies.”

Feng said the university is developing a new concept allowing its international students to do their internship over the coming summer holidays and networking at the fair could play a big role in securing internships.

Wittenborg offers a Master of Science degree in Events Management on a full-time or part- time basis. It also offers a Bachelor degree in International Business Administration (IBA) with a specialization in Hospitality Management. Myra (pictured)will start her full MSc International Event Management programme in September and  currently also works for Wittenborg’s China Desk and Admissions Team as part of an internship!
