Wittenborg’s TikTok Team Attends Workshop about the Platform

Social Media Expert Mahmut Mazlum Shared Insights into Best TikTok Practices

With the goal of learning new strategies to boost content and reach larger audiences, Wittenborg’s TikTok team participated in a digital marketing workshop focused on the platform, conducted by social media expert Mahmut Mazlum on 21 July.

The activity was joined by the school’s Admissions Administrator Allegra Zazzaro and Marlon Birdsall, who lead the TikTok team together, as well as External Relations and Events Coordinator Sophia Faraji, Senior Communications Manager Sinem Dosdogru and Admissions Manager Mykhailo Huba.

During the workshop, Mazlum discussed multiple aspects of TikTok, including the use of hashtags, the frequency of posting, the size of videos and how to write catchy captions, among other topics. At the end of the session, the participants engaged in a hands-on activity which involved creating a video and publishing it on Wittenborg’s TikTok profile.

According to Admissions Administrator Allegra Zazzaro, the workshop was very helpful and provided the team with good insights into the platform and the best ways to use it. “I often watch different videos and take note of other content creators’ strategies, and I have been researching and reading articles about content creation for TikTok, but it is great to be able to see another person’s perspective. At times, Mahmut’s ideas were very similar to ours, but of course he has his own perspective and shared many of the tricks that helped him become successful.”

Zazzaro also highlighted that the practical exercise was very useful to the participants. “We created a video with content that is trending, including a popular song, captions and hashtags, and we posted it on our TikTok account. It quickly reached 600 views,” she pointed out.

A New Way to Engage

Since 10 July, Wittenborg has been active on TikTok, under the username @wittenborg_wuas. By being present on the platform, the school intends to engage more with its students and provide them with useful and fun content, as well as listen to their feedback and see what can be improved in the institution.

“The students, as well as people in general, are getting to know and choose the places where they want to study based on social media. In addition to that, TikTok is becoming Gen Z’s new search platform, and the people have been using it to find relevant information. We joined the platform to be in close contact with the new generations and show them Wittenborg’s reality and the school’s core values, such as diversity and internationalisation, as well as our study locations in Apeldoorn, Amsterdam and Munich,” Zazzaro says.

Currently, Wittenborg’s TikTok team consists of 14 members, out of which 11 are based in the Apeldoorn and Amsterdam study locations and three in Munich.

Zazzaro commented that the team intends to get students involved in the creation of content for the platform. “We have been receiving positive comments and students are enthusiastic about our TikTok profile, and they want to get involved. For this reason, we are planning to organise contests to encourage students to create and submit their own videos, and the best content will be published on our channel. Our goal is that they will have the opportunity to express themselves and show, in a funny and creative way, their perspective on Wittenborg and the Netherlands.”
