Wittenborg at AACSB Conference in London

The Head of Wittenborg University of Applied Sciences’ Business School, Dr Rauf Abdul, attended the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) annual accreditation conference in London this week, where he received Wittenborg’s new membership certificate and forged new relations with peers from many countries in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

The 3-day conference featured as guest speaker Michael Chaskalson, author of “The Mindful Workplace”. The event gave attendees the opportunity to learn and understand the AACSB accreditation standards, gaining insight into the latest trends. Other topics discussed included "Technology in Business Schools", "Mindfulness in Business Education" and "Supporting Students' Academic Progress".

Abdul met up with representatives from Wittenborg’s education partner, the University of Brighton’s Business School, which is also pursuing AACSB accreditation. “I also met AACSB accreditation teams from Europe, the Middle East and Africa. At the conference I focused mainly on the initial accreditation application sessions,” Abdul said.

Wittenborg became a member of the AACSB last year and started with the accreditation process later that year. At the time Wittenborg’s head of the executive board, Peter Birdsall, explained the decision to seek AACSB membership: “The AACSB is a much more global accreditation system with a specific focus on business schools. It is a move also recommended by NVAO.”

AACSB and the Dutch Flemish Accreditation Organisation (NVAO) have signed a collaborative agreement enabling schools in the European region to earn initial accreditation with both organisations under a single, streamlined process. For schools in the Netherlands and Flanders this means administrators will experience greater ease in preparing for accreditation review without compromising on standards.
