Qiu Has Long Academic and Professional Trajectory at Wittenborg

On 1 January 2024, Wittenborg’s Head of Executive Affairs Myra Qiu became a permanent member of the school’s Executive Board. Myra will be directly involved in activities related to strategic planning and decision-making, which will play an important role in the paths followed by the institution.

Wittenborg’s Executive Board also includes Wittenborg’s president Peter Birdsall, CEO Maggie Feng and Director of Corporate Governance Karen Penninga.

Among other areas, Qiu’s responsibilities will encompass internal processes, HR team management, international collaborations, external locations and transnational education agreements, internal and international events, as well as recruitment and sales.

Originally from China, Wittenborg’s new member of the Executive Board obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree in Logistics, Materials and Supply Chain Management from HAN University of Applied Sciences, located in Arnhem. Subsequently, Qiu completed a Master of Science degree in International Event Management at the University of Brighton, followed by a postgraduate certificate in Teaching & Learning in Higher Education. Qiu is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) at Audencia.

Since joining the Wittenborg staff in 2014, Qiu has held various positions in the institution, including Manager of Academic Partnerships, Process & Quality Manager, Graduation & Examination Board Member, lecturer and, since September 2023, Head of Executive Affairs.

Qiu says that she is deeply honoured to become a member of the Executive Board of Wittenborg. “Wittenborg has made remarkable progress in recent years, with rapid growth and dynamic development in its strategic initiatives. This includes the successful launch of innovative MSc and MBA programmes, resulting in a significant milestone of doubling the number of enrolled students and reaching over 100 nationalities. My involvement in working with various teams for AACSB accreditation and building strategic partnerships, leading the Transnational Education (TNE) in Munich Germany and Bad Vöslau Austria, has been a journey of profound learning and professional development.”

Looking ahead to 2024, Qiu is excited to navigate the challenges and harness the potential opportunities presented by the evolving internationalisation and education landscape in the Netherlands. “My commitment is to continue fostering Wittenborg's growth and success through innovative strategies and dynamic leadership,” Qiu underlines.

Wittenborg’s president Peter Birdsall, also the Chair of the Executive Board, highlights that the governing body is enormously pleased that Qiu has joined it in a new role. “Her inclusion allows us to better proportion the portfolios of responsibility across four members instead of three. Myra has been responsible for most of our transnational education projects for many years. She will also bring the extra dynamic and expertise that she has developed at Wittenborg in the past decade, especially in the organisation of departmental teams.”
