Module Enrolment: How can I know which modules to enrol in?

In order to know the modules you have in each block, please check your study programme curriculum.

Question:

Module Classes: Can I access classes through the online area during the ongoing Covid-19 crisis?

Answer:

The modules will be delivered online and the lecturers will upload all requisite materials like articles, videos, recorded explanations, etc., and will encourage participation through forums, chats and presentations. The lessons will not be delivered in the traditional classroom setting during the ongoing crisis. Students can reach the lecturers through Teams in the scheduled time of the lessons for answering questions.



Question:

Modules: How can I add individual modules to my timetable?

Answer:

Once you access your timetable from https://timetable.wittenborg.eu, follow these steps:

  • Select Modules
  • Search for the module that you want to add by entering a key word. You can also choose to scroll down the list and look for modules manually. At the bottom of the page you will find “1/# >”, to go to the next page of modules.
  • Click on the module to add it to the list Currently Selected
  • Press Next when all the modules are selected.
  • Click Select all for each module.
  • Click Preview.
  • Click Save and you are done. When adding modules to your timetable where there are already some in it, after clicking Save, select Merge the Calendars to add the module(s) to the ones already in your Calendar. Please be aware that choosing Delete will remove everything you already added before!

The buttons Modules & Programmes of Study can be found at the top of the screen (mobiles), or in the box List Types (computer).




Question:

Moving Out: Can I move out of the student housing before the end of the package period?

Answer:

You can move out of the Wittenborg student housing before the end of the package period but there will be no refund allowed in general.

Question:

MVV Collection: I am unable to make an appointment with the Dutch embassy for the collection of my MVV. What can I do?

Answer:

The current IND regulations state that you must pick up your MVV within 3 months after receiving the IND decision/approval letter. This letter has been forwarded to your private email address by Wittenborg University of Applied Sciences

If you are unable to pick up your MVV within the required 3 months, please contact the Dutch embassy in your home country to request for another 3-month extension on top of these 3 months already provided to you (https://ind.nl/en/pages/coronavirus.aspx). Please know that you can request a 3-month extension only if it is impossible for you to make an appointment with the Dutch embassy for the collection of your MVV within 3 months. Since some of the Dutch embassies are on temporary lockdown, they are less accessible by email or phone, so do not wait until the last moment to contact them. 

Don't forget to keep us informed at all times by emailing us at registrar@wittenborg.eu or calling us on +31 886672688 if there is a change in your plans for coming to the Netherlands.

Networking for Internships: How can I connect with others and look for internships?

Upon completion of the introduction session, please try to register via WittenborgConnect first, which includes current students and alumni as its members. Wittenborg Connect allows you to both re-connect with old classmates as well as utilising the trusted Wittenborg University of Applied Sciences environment for expanding your professional network.

OV-Chipcard (OV-Chipkaart): What is an OV-chipcard and how can I use it in the Netherlands?

Answer:

In the Netherlands, the easiest way to take the bus, train, subway, or tramway is to use an OV-Chipcard (PT Smart Card). The costs for the OV-Chipkaart itself is €7,50 and can be bought at https://www.ov-chipkaart.nl/purchase-an-ov-chipkaart.htm or at the local NS-service points. There are two different OV cards.

  • The first is a personalised OV-chipcard, which allows for putting a photo on it and season tickets can be loaded here.
  • The second option is an anonymous card, not registered to a name. The company will not be able to know who is traveling with this card.

Note: Season tickets can only be loaded on the personalised card.

Question:

Ov-Chipkaart Lost: I have lost my OV-Chipkaart. Who should I contact?

Answer:

If you have lost your OV-Chipkaart or if it is defective, then you will have to cancel the travel product via the OV-Chipkaart Customer Service Department. Contact them by dialling 0900-0980 (normal call charges apply).

Part Time Jobs: What kind of jobs can I apply for as a student in the Netherlands?

There are mainly operational jobs available, but it is also depends on the market situation and your own experience/qualifications.

Part-Time Jobs: Do I need to inform the university for a work permit if I get a part-time job?

No, if it is a part-time job, and not an internship, the student need not inform Wittenborg. The employer will apply for the work permit for you.

Part-Time Jobs: Can I find part-time jobs on WittenborgConnect or HOSCO?

Answer:

No, the options of WittenborgConnect and HOSCO are only for internships. For part-time jobs you can go through www.indeed.nl or you can build your network connection with fellow students or companies via LinkedIn.

PDP Registrations: Do I need to register for PDP?

PDP consists of three main sections: Academic English, Seminars and Portfolio. 

You are required to register for Academic English.

Personal Support: How can I seek personal support while in the Netherlands?

Student Support is organised through the Front Desk. Staff are able to manage all general questions regarding the university and living in the Netherlands. Front Desk staff also assist students in the submission and collection of documents, including all aspects of registration and residence permits.

Student Support assists with the following:

  • Banking & Finances
  • Student Affairs and Travelling
  • Medical and Dental
  • Health Insurance
  • Working in the Netherlands
  • Student Housing
  • Student Building Access Cards
  • Student Code of Behaviour

Pre-Master's: Is there an internship requirement for pre-master's students?

Answer:

No, pre-master's is considered part of the master's programme; therefore, it is not a compulsory module. However, master's or pre-master's students can only do their internships during the last semester of their study programmes.

Printer Facilities: Where can I print documents?

For any printing needs, students can avail of the multiple printers in the Aventus building. For the exact locations at Aventus, as well as registering for this service, please click the link https://aventus.mijnnieuweprinten.nl/Login/Login. 

Wittenborg also recommends students to visit Postmasters for making copies of required documents. The location of Postmasters can be found easily with a Google search.

Project Weeks: How can I attend the Project Weeks?

At least 6 times a year, Wittenborg students are involved in a project week that challenges them through real-life, real-time projects organised by the university in cooperation with various companies and organisations, both locally, nationally and sometimes internationally.

Students are divided into project groups and are given an assignment to be completed in a short period of time, usually one or two weeks. This means dealing with deadlines and pressure while working for a real client. At the end of the project week, findings are presented in a professional setting at Wittenborg University: an opportunity to hone consulting and presenting skills. In short: a stimulating and educational experience that prepares students for the reality of their future careers.

Redirecting Post: How can I get my post redirected to my new residence overseas?

It can always be a hassle if your post gets misplaced after you have moved abroad. It may also be difficult for your friends or relatives to contact you if you have moved without letting them know in advance. There is a smart way to ensure any lost or misplaced posts by applying for this service on the Postnl website. This will enable all posts to your old address to be automatically redirected to the new address abroad. This service from Postnl is free of charge. 

To avoid confusion because the website is mainly in Dutch, there is the option of visiting a Postnl office in your area and activating this service.

Registration at Municipality: When should I register at the municipality?

Answer:

After receiving a residence permit, foreign students can register in their municipality. All students must be registered at their local City Hall. Just call your local City Hall for an appointment.

The Front Desk can make an appointment with the Gemeente (City Hall) for registration of the newly arrived students from abroad in Apeldoorn. For the appointment, students should bring the following documents:

  • Residence permit
  • Passport (original copy)
  • Birth Certificate (with legalised translation in Dutch or English)
  • Accommodation contract
 Citizen Service Number (BSN)  

“Burgerservicenummer” (BSN) is a unique personal number that enables reliable and efficient data exchange between citizens and government. In the Netherlands, all residents must have their own BSN if they wish to engage in either part-time or full-time work or studies, and for administrative issues, such as opening a bank account. 

NOTE:

  • A BSN will be issued to all students upon registering at the Gemeente.
  • The whole process of the BSN number may take 2 to 3 weeks upon arrival.
